Prophet VS

video upload by No Nag

"This was an eye opener for me.
I always thought this sounded dull and strange in the shops.
The I got one to my home and I got to spend hours on it. It truly is a masterpiece of a synth.

It was in working order but had intermitent chrashes.
So I got a new power supply from synthronics.de and put coolers on those
CEM5530 chips and it now works perfect."

video upload by No Nag

"A demo of the now discontinued Audiothingies P6. A cheap DIY VA-synth with a load of features, great sound and a small form factor. I use it a lot. It has some rolandish quality to its sound, at least I think so. The build took only 2 evenings."

Audiothingies pre Micromonsta synth.

"A DIY 6-voice polyphonic synth | chorder | arp with 16-step pattern sequencer | FX’s

With 2 oscillators, 1 sub-oscillator, an 8-mode resonant filter, 3 envelopes and 3 LFOs per voice, the P6 is capable of producing a large array of classic analog-like sounds, pads, strings, brasses, organs, leads, basses, arpeggios, fx’s and even drum sounds. It’s also fun to play with is integrated chorder and arp pattern sequencer.

Thanks to the easy to use interface with 6 encoders and 9 buttons, you will find yourself creating sounds in no time. Housed in a compact and stylish laser cut enclosure (several colors available), the P6 is a small-in-size but powerful-in-sound addition to your music rig."

Dr. bohm digital drums/80s vintage 12 bit drum machine

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"It consist of a digital (12bit) rythm unit and a analog 4 traks accompaniment synth unit.
Very comprehensive unit: you can record up to 180 own patterns (32 presets each with fill, break, solo 2 bar and solo 4 bars) in top of the 612 (yes) prerecorded ones, up to 32 bar length and 1/64 resolution, realtime or step recording, instrument individual volumes, automatic or random fills, tempo saved per pattern, sequencer mode, pattern copy, seperate outputs and more
Drum part is working perfectly and battery is ok. The only small nag is the "roll" pad switch wich is different from the other pads (it doesn't feel the same) but is working as it should.

Synth part condition is unknow. It need a special keyboard (not a simple trigger keyboard) that I don't own. However the pcb are present and the section respond to panel control (instrument mute, instrument selection) but no sound comes from the box as is.

The unit is in excellent condition and it comes with a copy of the owner manual (german only but I'll provide instruction for the basic and more advanced function).
Also this unit has 8 individual outputs.
Quite big and sturdy instrument (10 kilos) with a retractable handle :-)

specs:

* 36 rythms with 5 variations each = 180 patterns
* 5x Fill, 5x Break and 2 solos per rythm = 432 patterns
* 44 sound
* 30 pads
* 36 user rythm with 180 possible patterns (36 main patterns, 36 fills, 36 breaks, 36 solo 2 and 36 solo 4)
* up tpo 32 bars pattern and resolution up to 1/64
* Realtime or step by step recording
* independant volume for each instrument, saved per pattern
* global or per pattern tempo
* sequencer mode (36 sequences max)
* stereo output
* headphone output
* 8 individual outputs
* optional trigger and tape backup
* optional MIDI"

Oberheim OB12 Is it just wrong?

Published on May 29, 2020 No Nag Recordings

"In this rather long video I try to demonstrate all the features of the OB12. Both it's weak spots but also it's strength's.
In my mind, it's a really good synth, well laid out and can do epic sounds. It has a lot of features that not many synth have. At least on papper. Some things just don't work. If it's because of a weak CPU or badly writen firmware, I don't know. But I just stay away from those functions instead. Just don't expect it to sound like a OB-Xa or alike. Rightly tweaked this can still sound huge and fat, quiky and mean."

---

My take: It's wrong, but a keeper. I almost gave mine up until I realized its unique charm. It's not the best sounding VA if "thick" classic analog is what you are after. The FM and Resonance can be ear splitting. The Ring Mod has a unique character. You have to be careful as subtle changes have a big impact. It's that oddball character that makes it. Yet somehow it can make some of the most lush sounding pads. It's an odd one for sure. I'm glad I kept mine in the end as it can do things other synths just can't. It's almost like they didn't fine tune or reign things in so put through proper effects you can get some real magic out of it.

Kawai K4, The dirty one

Published on May 2, 2020 No Nag Recordings

"This video shows of the Kawai K4. It has a special tone to it. And why it always surprises me how good sounds that can come out of though it is so cheap and flimsy it is."

Korg 01R/W

Published on Apr 29, 2020 No Nag Recordings

"A short take on the Korg 01R/W early 90's romplar that came out after M1 and T-series. It has one feature not seen in any of the other Korg workstations untill rescent years, Waveshaping.

If this had not been implemented, I think this synth would be pretty boring. But with it , it really becomes alive."

Poly Pulse

Published on Mar 23, 2020 No Nag Recordings

"This is my polyphonic setup with 6 Waldorf Pulses. It becomes a massive synth. It's almost like a Memorymoog with 3 oscillators per voice and 24db filter... "almost". You can also do different setups. Say you layer 2 Pulses for a 3 voice with combined patches. You have 6 arpeggiators at your disposal. with different clocks, octaves, sounds. The only downside is the space it takes to have it."

Memorymoog

Published on Mar 1, 2020 No Nag Recordings

"I had the opportunity to take care for this magnificent peice of instrument for while. tI has been one of biggest dreams to own one since i was a boy with toys. Now that I tested it for some time i can say that for the price, I'd rather go for the Moog One. Sure, I still want one but only, more or less, as a collectors item. But It can still perform and make sounds like no other."

Ensoniq MrRack Expansion 3in1

Published on Jan 21, 2020 No Nag Recordings

"In this video I show how to upgrade and connect your MrRack with the 3in1 expansion from DXP. It's a quick process and you gain a lot. You get exp boards 1, 3 and 4 and they all sound great with drums, transwave pads and leads, pianos. You also get a fair amount of patches.

The song here is recorded with sound straight out of the box, no add on FX or EQ. And remember it's only a sound demo, nothing else :D

Poly800 with Hawk800 and the rest....

Published on Dec 21, 2019 No Nag Recordings

"This Video was a test mostly for a new Video software is was testing out. I'm strugling to learn it but im getting there. This just took too long and as you'll se in the end it just craps out and I couldn't fix that.. ??? (Sorry)
The Hawk800 is truely a must for the Poly800 in my mind. it makes this synth go from lame to cool, with the AtomaHawk and FM800 mods. This is just some presets for testing. I have a better video coming with a Behringer BCR2000 and some realtime tweaking because this deserves that."

Odessey vs Bodyssey

Published on Oct 6, 2019 No Nag Recordings

"Comparing The Original ARP Odyssey against the Behringer Odyssey.
The Bodyssey is a great copy of the old ARP with nice new features such as a sequencer/arpeggiator, Midi/CV, FX, 3 legacy filters VCA Drive and some more. It sounds fenomenal, even a bit beefier than the original. Keys feel ok, a bit sluggish. but better then the ARPs."

Blender 3D Midi Balls

YouTube via zamisers7k
"Sorry if the vid was chopy, still figuring things out, it High Def shinola(?) too many verii scanners maybe clogin my puter butts, but anyway here is what is going on in this vid:

There is no sensor in Blender's Game Engine to recieve midi messages, so I used Bomes Midi Translator to map midi notes to qwerty keyboard key presses. The trick was in Bomes Translator I had to translate the hex message for both key down and key up events, so there were actually 4 messages being remapped in this demo for only two midi notes on and off. If you don't do that than the key gets stuck and the balls will either not move or just go flying off the screen. I may do more complex stuff with it eventually and t I'll probably be limited to a certain amount of keys, but for the first night of testing the results seemed pretty cool and I don't know all the possibilites yet.

P.S. Blender is free wares/open source bless them, and Bomes Clasic is nag ware, so you can do the same just as cheap as me! Small print': RS7000, computer and midi hardware not included."
